Gonzalo Nicuesa

(Pamplona 1976), he lives and works in Pamplona

He graduated in Fine Art at the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao) in 2001 and did his Erasmus year at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Perugia (Italy) in the year 2000. He did a PhD course at the Drawing Department of the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao) in the academic year 2002-2003. He worked as a teacher of Drawing at the Pamplona Art School in 2007.

He has taken part in various workshops, such as the one on serigraphy at Arteleku (San Sebastian) directed by Pepe Albacete in 2004; Non-Toxic Etching (Photopolymers) directed by Angela Moreno at Zubiarte, Huarte in 2007; and the Lithography workshop run by Iñaki Rifaterra at Arteleku (San Sebastian) in 2012.

He was awarded the following grants: “Aid to Creation in the Plastic Arts” from the Government of Navarra (2004) and Residency at the BilbaoArte Foundation in 2006. In 2006 he also took part in the exchange between BilbaoArte Foundation and Kunsthaus Bregenz , (Austria).

In 2001 he won the “Pamplona Jovenes Artistas” [Pamplona Young Artists] competition. He won the second prize in the “Arte Joven Latina” of the Madrid Town Hall in 2005 and the third prize at the Government of Navarre Biennial Sport and Art Contest in 2007. In 2013 he won the IberArt prize in the category of Etching/Graphics and the first prize in the 2013 Mini-Paintings of Elda, Alicante.

He has had individual exhibitions in 2002, 2004 and 2007 in Pamplona; “Imágenes Plásticas” at the Dato Centre in Vitoria; “Plastica” (2007) and “Entre” (2012) in Donostia-San Sebastian and “Heute hier/Hoy aqui” in Bregenz (Austria) in 2006.

He shall take part in the “CutLog 2013” Fair in París and in 2012 he took part in the Room Art Fair #2 in Madrid, both with Canvas Art Gallery. He has also taken part in several collective exhibitions in Navarre, Bilbao, Zaragoza, Madrid, Mallorca, Alicante, Burgos, Salamanca and in 2013 in the “New work from Spain & The Netherlands” at the “The Griffin Gallery” in London.
His work is present at the public collections of the: Pamplona Town Hall, Comparsa Huestes de Cadí of Elda (Alicante), BilbaoArte Foundation, Goya Foundation, Fuendetodos (Zaragoza), Public University of Navarre and Fundación Adacen (Navarre).
